7/29 Turtle Eggs

Hola familia,

This week was another good week for us. Lately things have been really good and we have been working really hard. To start off, we had a lot of lessons this week. The mission has a goal that everyone can achieve 30 lessons a week. We have had about 32 lessons every week but this week we ended up with 38. It was really surprising because we don't really focus in on the numbers. We really focused on using our time wisely and how we could help everyone. So that was a cool surprise. We also have about 8 people that have accepted a baptismal date and we are working to help them progress to their goals. So things really went well this week.

This week was full of great experiences too. We have been teaching a 14 yr old girl named J. We found her at the house of a less active member and began to teach her. She really liked what we taught her. She is really smart and really wants to learn more. So we began to teach her, but we really wanted to get to know her family and went looking for her mom. We got to know her mom and left her with a pamphlet about the plan of salvation. We wanted to start teaching the family but the step dad won't give the mom permission to listen to us. The mom gave J permission to listen to us and attend church. The mom really likes what we teach but her husband won't let us teach her or enter the house. But the mom asked if we could help J study english for school. So her mom really trusts in us and wants her daughter to learn more about God. We have been teaching J and she continues to surprise us. She accepted a baptismal date for August 11th, but her mom wants to make sure that J really wants to get baptized before the 11th.  J has a lot of faith and is begining to teach her mom about the things she is learning. The crazy thing is that after a week of teaching her, J has made the decision to serve a mission. She has made plans to finish her studies and work a year then leave for a mission. She really surprises us everyday. Sunday at church, she drew us a picture and wrote us a card thanking us for changing her life. It was a really touching card and it always makes me happy to know that I could help someone have a better life. So J right now is great and progressing a ton. Plus she says Hi to Kendal. I told her that I had a sister about her age.

This week I went on divisions with a recent convert and we went knocking doors because everything fell through. I let the recent convert, M, choose the house. He chose a house and they let us in. We entered and there was a wife and her husband. They were really nice and the husband is losing his eyesight. He has been losing his sight for 4 years and is almost completely blind. We had a really good lesson with them and at the end of the lesson, I had the prompting to ask if he would like a blessing. He had a shocked look on his face when I asked, but he accepted. It was a really powerful experience. I had just met this guy and I was able to give him a blessing of health. I don't remember what I said but I felt the spirit super strong during the blessing. It was a really powerful experience and we are going to visit them this week.

This week was a great week because we just focused on helping everyone that we could. We even helped the drunk people on the streets. It was crazy because we were running around like locos trying to get to lessons and helping random people. But every day we felt great and we ending up having a very good week.

I miss you guys but I really don't want to leave here. It is really nice and the people are really great too. Today we went to Volcan Poas. It was my second time there but it was really fun. Plus I ate turtle eggs today. It was really interesting. They put the turtle egg in a shot glass and fill up the rest of the glass with salsa. Then to eat it, you have to drink it and swallow the whole thing. It wasn't gross. It was interesting. So that was fun. But things are great here. I am really happy, probably the happiest I have been on my mission. Everything is pura vida.
I
